This works! Highly recommended. What more can I say.
I previously used a table fork to weed small pots up to 12" pots (but it is slow for larger pots). The RHS charity are expert on all things plant related, so have the greatest idea on all gardening techniques and tools. On checking weeding tools, I came across this weird looking tool. Made by Spear and Jackson (Spear & Jackson was founded in 1760 in the City of Sheffield famous for the production of steel, cutlery and hand tools, it continues to be their home over 260 years later, they use traditional materials with modern manufacture) it is made in conjunction with Kew Gardens (licensed). I have found it a very versatile planting and weeding tool (much faster than other tools) and as a hand tool it reaches much further into the pot / ground ensuring the removal of weed roots more efficiently (a hand fork or trowel are far too wide for plant pots especially), this tool cuts through soil "like butter" and with its bottom notch and width at same lifts rootballs easily. The mirror polished stainless steel head is very easy to clean and dry, so will retain its looks for years (the measure marks on the tool allows you gauge the depth you weed to / avoid your plants roots. Its FSC certified wooden, weather-proofed ash handle for greater durability is a boon for those who want a tool to last "a lifetime". The serrated edge for increased cutting power through roots I found very useful for a weed that I have not seen before and it had a stranglehold on two shrubs, the edge sawed through the weed no problems. The chamfered notch for slicing twine I found very useful. All in all, more gardeners should know about this tool.
A great tool that weeds, open compost bags and cuts string so good I bought 3 for gifts.
