The Spear and Jackson Neverbend Carbon border spade easily exceeds the BS3388 load test thanks to the head and extra long socket which are forged from one piece of carbon steel. This steel is up to 50% stronger than stainless steel and the tool is supplied with a 15 year guarantee. Specifications Features and Benefits

Excellent quality tool. Ordered with border fork but that still hasn't arrived after 1 month.
Got this as a replacement to a 'bulldog' border spade which was stolen from a job i was working on. had a tread welded onto my last one and was pleased to see this on the s & j. feels very solid. Quite heavy compared to bulldog. The curved handle seems to stop the jarring on the wrist when you're digging out roots. Dug over a couple of veg. Plots since getting (i'm 6ft) and found i still had to do plenty of bending but i think this is about the usual length for this type of spade. Sharpened it with carbide sharpener straight away (i very much prefer carbon steel to stainless for this) and feels like it will get sharper with use. Very happy with the build and feel of this spade. Will get a lot of use and seems up to the job.
