Designed to offer a safer, easier to use and less intimidating machine for users with limited chainsaw experience, the UNIVERSALCHAIN 18 is also the first chainsaw on the Bosch PowerForAll 18v cordless platform. The tool is particularly compact and lightweight so users can work with the UNIVERSALCHAIN 18 in a controlled manner and can use it comfortably for a variety of sawing tasks in the garden. Typical uses include pruning fruit trees and cutting timber or branches for firewood; the UNIVERSALCHAIN 18 is suitable for cutting materials with a diameter of up to 135mm.

The tool has a number of features which help to make it safer and more intuitive to use. Its recoil protection helps users to make every cut, such as undercuts, in a controlled manner: The protective guard at the tip of the blade reduces vibrations and makes clean cuts easier, which promote the healthy growth of wood. The way in which the severed branch falls can also be controlled more accurately and other branches will not be damaged accidentally. The UNIVERSALCHAIN 18 has a Bosch SDS system, which enables the saw chain and bar to be fitted in just a few hand movements and without the use of tools, and benefits from automatic chain lubrication. The cordless chainsaw also has an ergonomic handle with Softgrip and an additional handle with a hand guard. During all sawing operations, the user can see the charging state of the battery on an easily visible display on the tool.

Like all recent generations of PowerForAll cordless tools, the UNIVERSALCHAIN 18 has a Bosch Syneon chip built into it - this is an intelligent energy management system that monitors load conditions on the tool and ensures optimum power is delivered during heavy duty applications while conserving battery power during less taxing conditions. As well as ensuring maximum performance this enables runtime to be extended and more cuts to be achieved before needing to recharge or swap out the battery. What's more, the UNIVERSALCHAIN 18 is powerful right up to the last cut; it holds full power until the battery is depleted, rather than suffering from a gradual slowdown in performance.

The UNIVERSALCHAIN 18 is part of the PowerForAll battery system which comprises DIY and garden tools. More than 20 different power tools, from grass trimmers to rotary hammer drills, can all be operated using the same 18 volt lithium ion battery. Most of these tools can be optionally purchased as body only machines (without battery or charger) - providing the PowerForAll user with an economical way to add additional power tools to their kit when required.
